Remembering September 11, 2011

On this day of remembrance, we mourn all the victims of these terrorists attacks on our nation. Ed and I have special connections to two of them. One was Charles "Chick" Burlingame, a 1971 U. S. Naval Academy classmate of Ed's was the pilot  of the plane that was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon. The other was Lieutenant General Timothy Maude, U. S. Army. The Maude family were neighbors when we lived on Floridastrasse, at Patch Barracks, near Stuttgart, Germany. He and his wife have two daughters who were about the same ages as our girls. General Maude was the most senior U. S. military officer killed since World War II. Both of these men were simply at work, doing their jobs that fateful day.
